As a general rule, it’s always a great idea to support small businesses. But this applies to more than just retail or restaurants! Today, One Love Orthodontics will explain: What are the benefits of supporting a one-doctor practice?
A Personalized Approach
We may be a bit biased, but the list of reasons to choose a practice like ours is quite long! Let’s take a look:
- Consistency: With a single doctor like Dr. Dayan overseeing your treatment, there’s consistency in the communication, approach, and decision-making process throughout the whole treatment journey.
- Personalized Care: Interacting with the same orthodontist at every visit fosters a stronger patient-doctor relationship, with individualized needs and preferences being clearly understood.
- Continuity of Care: From start to finish, Dr. Dayan will maintain a comprehensive understanding of each patient’s treatment progress, history, and goals. This can also be a great asset if someone needs to refer a friend or family member.
- Streamlined Communication: Working with one doctor allows for direct communication and simplifies the process overall, allowing for clear and efficient exchanges regarding treatment plans, progress updates, or any other concerns that might arise.
- Comprehensive Expertise: Dr. Dayan oversees all aspects of treatment planning, execution and follow-up, ensuring that patients can rely on his range of expertise during their orthodontic process. Dr. Dayan worked hard to receive his Ivy League education to serve patients with excellence, and his talent manifests in every patient he works with.
- Enhanced Accountability: Patients and their families have a clear point of contact for accountability so that any issues or adjustments can be promptly addressed by a doctor who is completely familiar with their case.
- Flexibility: Patients may find it easier to schedule appointments and accommodate busy schedules when working with a single orthodontist, who can provide more flexibility in appointment times and treatment options.
- Community: We love our Brooklyn neighborhood and have a high degree of respect and understanding of its population. We’re grateful to be able to nurture a relationship with local families and enrich the area in the process.
The Corporate Disadvantage
One common alternative to a single-doctor practice like ours is the corporate route. A corporate orthodontic practice is controlled by DMOs (dental management organizations) or other large corporations. Here is why we don’t recommend these practices:
- Lack of Personalized Care: In corporate orthodontic settings, patients can feel like another number in a system rather than a human being. A dedicated orthodontist is able to provide individualized care and attention.
- High Turnover of Staff: Corporate orthodontic practices have a tendency to experience frequent turnover of staff in both orthodontists and support personnel. This can lead to inconsistency and lack of continuity for patients. We, on the other hand, have an incredible, time-tested team of colleagues who love to see new and returning patients.
- Limited Treatment Options: No one wants to get through an examination and be told they can’t be helped. Corporate practices can prioritize certain treatment methods or products based on financial incentives or agreements, limiting the range of treatment options for patients.
- Focus on Profit over Patient Care: Corporate offices can often prioritize profitability over patient care, leading to pressure to upsell treatments or procedures that may not even be necessary for a patient’s oral health. In other words, shady business.
- Less Flexibility in Scheduling: Due to high patient volumes and standardized operating procedures, corporate orthodontic practices may offer less flexibility in appointment scheduling, making it challenging for patients to find convenient appointment times.
- Reduced Sense of Community: Patients can feel less connected to both the practice and practitioner in corporate orthodontic settings, as they often lack the intimate, community-oriented atmosphere of smaller independent businesses like our own.
- Higher Costs: Up-front, you may think you’re getting a deal. But when treatments aren’t executed correctly, especially in a dental or medical setting, the long-term costs—financially and emotionally—of trying to get things fixed are rarely worth it.
- Bad Ratings: Any patient should do their research before choosing a practice. Generally speaking, corporate orthodontic offices have a fairly wide range of reviews. A lot of them can be related to patient care and treatment quality. We’d encourage you to take a look at our own glowing patient testimonials by contrast.
